Gypsies and College Graduates
“Some College“. That’s what I have put on my resume instead of “College Graduate”. Don’t get me wrong… I have nothing against college graduates. In my opinion business gypsy life wouldn’t be possible for me or other business gypsies if it weren’t for college graduates.
Every person I have met that is self employed, a Gypsy or business gypsy is with someone who works the 9-5 job and/or has graduated college.
Case in point. My mother is the ultimate business gypsy. She has been a business Gypsy her whole life, working for herself and making it work. The only reason why she was able to do this was because of my dad. He had the 9-5, 5 day a week, salary paying job. His employer then sent him to school and this made it easier for my mom to fulfill her dream to be a self employed business gypsy.
Another case in point. The show “Dharma and Greg”. Dharma was the free spirited, fly by the seat of your pants, type of girl. Always had random jobs, loved the spiritual side of life, and was always smiling. Greg was the ying to Dharma’s yang. Greg was the 9 to 5er. He worked 7 days a week and was level headed. They balanced each other out.
Business gypsies who fall for another business gypsy usually have financial woes. A 9 to 5er who falls for another 9 to 5er have their financials in order but they never see one another and are bound to the “Rat Race.”
Business gypsies need the college grads. College grads are grounded, motivated and they also have that little piece if paper saying they know what they are doing. Gypsies are care free, creative, and fun, which are some things the 9 to 5er needs after a long day of running on the rat wheel.
My life would be very different if it weren’t for my 9 to 5 man. But he did not start off that way. Like every gypsy girl, I fell for a Gypsy boy. He was a roofer and was self taught, just like me.
But once we started to get serious he changed his thinking. He loved roofing but wanted something stable. So now he is a 9 to 5er, and his employer is sending him back to school.
I sometimes wish I completed college and with my man going back to school, it makes me think that maybe I should.
But then I think again. Who would I be if I finished college? Would I still be the fun and free business gypsy or would I be a 9 to 5 workaholic, like everyone else who steps out as a college grad?
One thing is for certain…. my business gypsy life would not exist if it weren’t for the college grads and the 9 to 5ers.
